Abstract :
   In the present study freezing and melting experiments, performance with an ice thermal energy storage in spherical capsule. A sphere with a phase change material (water) initially in the liquid phase at its freezing and melting temperature are instantaneously exposed to a uniform temperature at the capsule wall. Two heat transfer modes occur with freezing and melting in spherical capsule. One is conduction heat transfer in ice and capsule wall, and another is convection heat transfer in fluid region. The effects of fluid temperature, capsule size and volume fractions of capsule on the freezing-melting process have been considered in this analysis. The simulated results are predicted values satisfactorily agree well with those of the experiment.
