Abstract :
         The thermal and heat transfer characteristics of paraffin ( PCM ) during the melting and solidification processes were determined experimentally in a vertical cylindrical thermal and energy storage system. The inlet temperature, the flow rate of water uses as the heat transfer fluid. The heat transfer coefficients obtained between the PCM and the cylindrical tank are larger than the calculated values based on the theory of steady-state heat conduction due to the dendritical crystal growth of PCM ( using Lumped Technique ). The experimental results proved that the PCM melts and solidifies congruentlys also indicated that the everage heat transfer coefficient and the heat flow rate to the storage tank could have effect system performance.
